LIFE-ACCLIMATE

Cultivating Resilience: Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Greenhouses to Enhance Yield and Resource Efficiency

The main objective of the LIFE-ACCLIMATE project is to implement and demonstrate a sustainable and resource-efficient greenhouse horticulture model as a climate change adaptation strategy, leveraging the use of advanced technologies such as ground and aerial robots, artificial intelligence (AI) and Decision support systems (DSS). The project aims to demonstrate the benefits of this model for crop yield, resource use efficiency, pests and diseases management based on eco-friendly and sustainable strategies and greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

The expected outcomes of the project are as follows:

    1. Optimisation of crop yields: A minimum increase of 25% in crop yields is expected compared with the baseline.

    2. Reduction in water consumption: The project aims to reduce water consumption in greenhouses by at least 25%.

    3. Optimisation of energy use: A minimum reduction of 25% in energy consumption for heating, cooling and lighting in greenhouses is expected.

    4. Reduction in the use of chemical pesticides: The project aims to completely eliminate the use of chemical pesticides and reduce the impact of pests and diseases by at least 50%.

    5. Optimisation of fertiliser application: The project aims to reduce fertiliser use by 20% and minimise nutrient losses in greenhouses.

    6. Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions: The project aims to reduce GHG emissions associated with greenhouse operations by at least 20%.

THE ROLE OF THE INNOVALIA ASSOCIATION

Innovalia plays a key role in the LIFE-ACCLIMATE project as the technical coordinator, leading the supervision of the implementation and technical progress of all activities. Innovalia is also responsible for the design and development of a Decision Support System (DSS) specifically tailored for greenhouse horticulture. This system will integrate data generated by terrestrial and aerial robotic platforms, artificial intelligence algorithms, and intuitive interfaces to provide accurate and personalized recommendations that optimize agricultural decision-making.
In addition, Innovalia leads tasks related to the deployment of the complete solution in demonstration scenarios and will conduct a comprehensive analysis to assess the transferability and replicability of the results obtained.
